Join RPCC as we join together as a community to help support The Austin Fire Department!
The Austin Fire Foundation Fund was established to support the City of Austin Fire Department’s public education, professional development, awards and recognition, and firefighter wellness initiatives.
Firefighters are at the forefront of emergency response during the coronavirus pandemic. AFD personnel have many new duties including coordinating the distribution and decontamination of Personal Protective Equipment, testing and monitoring Public Safety personnel who may have contracted the virus, and setting up temporary lodging for being quarantined.
Currently, the foundation is reaching out the Austin community to assist with securing additional personal protection equipment for our courageous colleagues working on the frontline virus battle. It’s no secret that the physical and mental stress of firefighting has long-lasting effects on firefighter health and wellness. Simple actions like washing the carcinogens carried in smoke and debris off clothing, boots, and face masks can reduce risk. The foundation is working to purchase this highly specialized decontamination cleaning equipment to help reduce the exposure risk to cancer causing agents.
Community and corporate support for this Foundation are welcome and encouraged. Any and all donations support public safety and fire department programs in Austin. To make an online donation please visit www.austincrime.org and click on the “DONATE” button at the top of the landing page.
